Gaining a competitive advantage in today’s online market can be a bit of a challenge. They say that there are many ways to Rome and although this is true, the problem is that once business owners find their shortcut they tend to relax and don’t keep an eye open for further opportunities. One of these is SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
This article will help a savvy business owner in understanding the basics of SEO including the choice of an SEO company, effects on the website, timelines, results and performance tracking.
What is SEO?
First of all let’s clarify what SEO is and isn’t. SEO is a process of technical and semantic adjustments performed on one’s content and/or website in order to make the targeted content more accessible for search engines and help them understand the theme and focus of the site. A natural result of a well optimized website is increase in search engine result page position. SEO itself doesn’t get your website higher in the results, it’s the fact that your site’s topic becomes clear to search engines that results in better position. An SEO company cannot guarantee you a placement in any search engines. Read the rest of this entry »

It has been very apparent to everyone that there has been explosive growth in social networking sites such as FaceBook and MySpace. In fact, studies have shown a 350%+ growth in MySpace alone in the past year.
While this has been taken negatively by doomsayers who predict the worst for children who have access to these networks, it is seen as very positive not only by social scientists (who marvel at this growing technology-savvy social beings) but by online marketers who have found a goldmine for the products and services they offer.
The multiple facets of these sites make it possible for the marketer to not only, make enormous returns on the dollars invested, but to actually meet more individuals and companies that they can form a business relationship with. This flexibility is an incredible advantage for like-minded people.
MySpace has lorded it over the other social networking sites both in the United States and in the United Kingdom (where there are 2.3 million users). With an estimated 13 thousand new users everyday, there are probably around 5 million MySpace members by end of this year in UK alone.
Even though MySpace couldn’t command a penny more that a $1 Billion from Google to buy a stake in their company (/sarcasm), it does bode well even for the smaller players in this industry. You may yet see some social networks set up for the benefit of their members, not just their owners.
MySpace boasts of achieving the 100 millionth account mark in August last year. It has over 300 million registered accounts as of December 18, 2007 and continues to attract 230,000 new account registrants on a daily basis. The efficacy of MySpace as a social networking site is evident with the existing profiles of some candidates for the 2008 US Presidential elections on MySpace.
Even though it seems like there is no limit to the growth of sites like Youtube and MySpace, it is always good to keep your eyes open for other start-ups that could just be a month or two away from the explosive growth of the other giants in the industry. More focused networking sites like GibLink could become the desired areas for likeminded people to gather and communicate.
It seems like the owners of these sites are commanding huge amounts of money and deservedly so, as they are the owners of each of their sites. Some of the newer players on the market, such as GibLink, are actually revenue sharing with their users. If MySpace did that each one of their 300 million accounts should have gotten a check from Google for about $330. This seems like fantasy, but GibLink is sharing its revenue with its users.
